Ever since I turned 21, one of my San Diego bucket list items has been taking a wine tasting trip to Temecula. After my dear friend Jessica’s wedding at Ponte Winery last April, I knew I had waited too long to make the trip.
Well thank you, 25th birthday, for giving me the perfect excuse to gather up the girls for some vino, blurry photo shoots, a whole lotta laughter, and an Adele & gangsta rap singalong car trip.
The first thing I did in Big Sur was break down.
We parked the car at 1:30am after driving 6.5 hours up from San Diego, rolling up to a sleepy campground where the continent ended and the ocean began. I opened up the car door to the cold air, turning my face toward the stars. White pinpricks of light, more than I’ve ever seen at one time, coated the inky black darkness that was the night sky with no city lights for miles.
Tears like I hadn’t known all year overflowed and my chest heaved in silent sobs I didn’t even know I was holding in. Sweet, sweet release.
